Piston packing. - In order to limit the extension of telescopic rams, split expansible rings c, Figs. 3 and 4, are adapted to engage with grooves d. The rings are carried by grooves deep at one end and sloping to a shallow portion, and the grooves d are bevelled at one end. Packing rings e are expanded by the liquid under pressure acting through perforations f.
