Abstract

296,770. Garlock Packing Co., (Assignees of Fox, E. N., and Hampshire. E.). Sept. 9, 1927, [Convention date]. Packing, metallic; draining.-Means for removing oil from a piston-rod comprises one or more pairs of segmental rings 40, 41 having bevelled engaging surfaces and contracted by surrounding springs 50, which may be of wave form. Each pair of rings is housed in a groovedcarrier ring 36, which is preferably formed in halves secured together by screws 51. The rings 36 are spaced by projections 52 integral with the rings, the edges 54 of the rings being bevelled adjacent to the projections. The oil drains into the engine &c. casing through perforations 55 in the box, which may be formed in halves secured together by screws, and is secured to the engine casing by means of a flange 33. The box may be formed with an outer chamber 28 containing packing, which may comprise a pair of segmental rings 57, having bridgepieces 59 and contracted by garter springs 60.
