Cup-leather packing; packing, non-metallic; compound metallic and non-metallic.- A packing unit comprises two opposed U-shaped rings c of cotton. hemp, asbestos &c. treated with rubber, and an interposed ring d of similar material. The ring d is of circular cross-section and makes contact both with the rod a and with the box b. The rings c may be studded with anti-friction metal. Two or more packing units may be employed, the mutually engaging faces of the units being flat, as shown, or formed with interlocking ribs and recesses.
