334,883. Ball, F. L., Moulton, F., and Lead Wool Co., Ltd. June 10, 1929. Packing, metallic; compound metallic and non-metallic. - In packing of the type comprising superposed corrugated metal sheets, with or without interposed sheets of fabric. the sheets are dusted with graphite or other lubricant. The metal sheets may be of lead, brass, copper or white metal, and may be corrugated longitudinally or diagonally. In the latter case the corrugations may cross, as shown in Fig. 5. The sheet 1, Fig. 6, may be rolled about strings 2 of jute, asbestos, cotton or rubber, and the packing may be twisted axially as shown in Fig. 10. The packing may then be wound helically on a former and compressed axially in a mould. Alternatively, the packing may comprise folded layers 1, Fig. 9, of metal and 5 of cotton, asbestos, felt or cork. Rings may be stamped from superposed sheets of metal and fabric, the rings being then compressed axially.
