Abstract

534,402. Stuffing-box packing. WALKER & CO., Ltd., J., DIXON, W. J., and WATSON, T. F. Aug. 5, 1939, No. 22784. [Class 122 (v)] Packing for a stuffing- box comprises a ring c of fibrous or other elastic material, the inner face of which is in contact with the shaft e and is wider than the outer face, so that the ends of the ring are inclined, and two metal reinforcing plates a, b which fit against the ends of the ring and bear on the shaft at their inner edges. The outer edges of the plates are formed with flanges a', b', and are spaced apart, so that a portion of the ring is exposed between them. The ring may be of asbestos, hemp, cotton &c. and may have a lubricant, such as graphite, oil or grease incorporated with it. Indiarubber may be incorporated with the material of the ring.
