Abstract

Actuating by gas pressure; timing devices.-A pump A, which injects water into the cylinders of an internal-combustion engine is operated by the internal cylinder pressure and means are provided for adjusting the time of delivery. The plunger of the pump A having suction and delivery pipes a<1>, a<2>, is connected to a piston b<1> which is moved by the internal cylinder pressure against a spring b<2>, the casing B passing through the cylinder wall. The piston is also loaded by a spring b<5> through links b<8>, b<10>, and a pin b' the pressure of the spring being adjusted by a thumb screw b<12>, to vary the time of the injection. The Provisional Specification describes alternative means for regulating the spring pressure, comprising an internal flange against which the piston b<1> is pressed and, as an abutment for the spring, a sleeve which is adjustably mounted.
