Abstract

624,843. Fuel-injection pumps. BLAKEWAY, R. S. April 18, 1946, No. 11045/48. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1945. Divided out of 616,709. [Class 102(i)] A fuel - injection pump comprises a plunger 134 connected to a piston 116 carrying a sleeve 113 projecting below the surface of oil in a chamber 106, the cylinder compression pressure acting through a pipe 107 on the surface of the oil to force the piston down until ports 114 allow the oil to fill the space 133 above the piston when the pressure act s on the whole piston head. An adjustably positioned cut - off sleeve 120 closes the ports 114 to end the stroke, and the piston returning spring 126 is adjustable by means of a screwed collar 130 acting through rods 129 on a movable abutment plate 127. The oil above the piston 116 is returned to chamber 106 on the up-stroke through a non-return valve 112. Fuel enters the pump chamber 135 through a pipe 136 and is forced through a pipe 140 to the engine cylinder. A pointer 124 indicates the position of the cut-off sleeve 120.
