Abstract
293,426. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Brand, F. F.). July 6, 1927, [Convention date]. Regulating transformers.-Relates to a method of varying the effective number of secondary turns under conditions in which the primary circuit 20 remains energized although the load circuit is disconnected, and consists in connecting across a break in secondary winding 16 adjacent to which the tap connections are made, a byepass such as a condenser 21 so as to avoid sparking at the contacts of the tapping switch 19 caused by charging currents due to the capacity of the secondary winding, leads, terminals &c. Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to a transformer in which the tap connections are all located on one half of the secondary winding, the condenser being connected to the middle tapping and to the switch arm. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which tap connections are arranged on both halves of the secondary, the condenser being connected to the middle tapping of each set.
