Abstract

289,538. Peter, L. H., and Westing- house Brake & Saxby Signal Co., Ltd. Jan. 28, 1927. Detecting and indicating faults. - A leakage indicator for alternating-current circuits comprises a transformer or a rectifying device connected between each of the circuit conductors and earth and arranged to actuate a relay operating an indicator. As shown the primary 3, 7 of transformers 4, 8 are connected between the circuit conductors 1, 5 respectively and earth. The secondary windings 11, 15 of the transformers 4, 8 are connected to the diagonally opposite points of rectifying systems 12, 16 respectively, the other pairs of diagonally opposite points being connected to relay windings 13, 17. Normally the armatures 19, 20 of both relays 13, 17 are attracted and close the circuit of a green lamp 24 between supply terminals 23, 25. On the occurrence of a fault on one of the mains 1, 5, the corresponding primary winding is more or less short-circuited causing de-energization of the associated relay and thereby closing the circuit of one or other of the red lamps 28, 29. In a modification the transformers 4, 8 are omitted, the mains 1, 5 being connected directly to the rectifying systems 12, 16. Regulating resistances may be included in circuit with the relay winding 13, 17. The rectifying units are preferably of the metal oxide type described in Specification 257,305.
