Arrangements of asymmetric conducting devices.-In an arrangement for rectifying alternating current employing an asymmetric conducting-device such as that described in Specification 257,305, [Class 37, Electricity, Measuring &c.], in series with the load, a second rectifier is connected in shunt with the load circuit and in reverse sense, so as to reduce the reverse voltage applied to the load circuit and thereby increase the average useful current therethrough. The load L, Fig. 1, is alternately supplied during opposite half-cycles through rectifiers 7, 8, and the reverse voltages applied to the load circuits are reduced by rectifiers 5, 6 connected so as to load the transformer winding sections 2A, 2B when the voltages applied to the load through the rectifiers 7, 8 are in the wrong direction. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 (Cancelled), in which the load is divided into two parts L', L<2> connected through oppositely-disposed rectifiers 3, 4 to the terminals a, b of the supply transformer so that each rectifier circuit serves to cause a drop in the voltage applied to the other during that halfcycle in which current tends to flow in the wrong direction through the load. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
