Abstract

290,501. Petersen, O. Oct. 5, 1927. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel. - A liquid-fuel injection valve is opened by the pressure of the fuel on a flexible diaphragm, the thickened edge of which is clamped in the valve casing and provided with one or more passages for the fuel. The fuel is supplied by a pump to a chamber q, formed by the nozzle member c and the diaphragm d, through passages o, b; the diaphragm is clamped between polished faces on the end of the valve casing a and the member c bv a nut b having a spherical pressure surface. The diaphragm is either flat or provided with annular corrugations and may comprise several thin superposed plates; its centre may form the valve itself, being either flat or annular as shown, or it may be attached to a valve member; several atomizing nozzles s are provided. The diaphragm is loaded by a plate or helical spring h, the pressure being adjustable by a screwthreaded abutment j, and a screw-threaded stop l adjusts the amplitude of the opening of the valve.
