Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-The spindle a of a fuelinjeetion valve which opens under the pressure of the fuel has a cup-shaped or conical recess k in its end, the surface of the recess making an angle of approximately 90‹ or more with the, annular end face of the spindle which engages an annular seat j on the nozzle b. The seat j and the surface r on the nozzle are conical and the bearing-surface h of the nozzle is spherical. In a modification the end of the spindle is tapered for a short distance and the bearing-surface h of the nozzle is flat.
