Gill boxes.-In a gill box having two sets of intersecting fallers the upper set a of which can be lifted vertically from the lower set b, the upper set is driven from the lower set by gearing which is slidable along and rotatable with vertical shafts driven from the lower set. The frame of the upper set slides on rods c and is lifted by an arrangement of a hand-wheel and bevel or other suitable gearing. ton in the preparation of material for felt, batting for upholstery, &c., comprises a casing 14 mounted on a stand 10. In the upper part of the casing is a hopper 17, in which the cotton is placed, formed by a partition 15 and a baffle plate 16. Toothed rollers 18, 19 occupy the space between the partition and plate, and are driven in the same direction. The teeth on the rollers are inclined in opposite directions and the roller 19 has a greater surface speed. The fibres passed between these rollers are received by rollers 21, 22, 23 and are transferred to a delivery roller 24, which draws them round over the curved bottom 25 of the casing. A vibrating comb 27 removes the fibres from the roller 24 and deposits them on an apron 33. The comb 27 is carried by arms 29 centred on a rod 28 and is vibrated by a cam 32 carrying a pin engaging a slot in the arm 29.
