Abstract
289,376. Universelle Cigaretten-Maschinen-Fabrik J. C. M³ller & Co. April 25, 1927, [Convention date]. Cigarette - making machines. - In a tobacco spreading device for cigarette machines in which the tobacco is fed by an endless band 36 to the carded feed-roller 2, the tobacco is deposited on the band 36 from a separate hopper 18, provided with tobacco loosening means, in a layer which can be regulated in thickness. As shown, the tobacco on the roller 2 passes under a stripper roller 4 and is removed bv a stripper roller 12 and conveyed by a belt 13 to the forming channel 17. The tobacco in the hopper 18 is loosened by comb-like plates 19, 20 pivoted in the walls of the hopper and oscillated by means of connecting rods 29, 30 and crank discs 32, 33 on a shaft 35, the teeth in each plate passing freely through the gaps in the other plate. The thickness of the tobacco layer is regulated by adjustment of the plates 19, 20 and of the speed of the belt 36. A roller 42 is pressed resiliently against the roller 2, and tobacco not gripped by the roller 2 is returned to the belt 36 by a belt 51 passing over the roller 42 and a roller 52, the spindles of the rollers 42, 52, being supported by rods 44, 54 pivoted on a rail 46 adjustable vertically and horizontally on the wall of the spreader housing 1.
