Abstract

255,132. Marks, E. C. R., (American Machine & Foundry Co.). March 16, 1925. Cigarette-making machines.-In tobacco-feeding Mechanism for cigarette-making machines, the tobacco in a hopper 3 is fed forward by a carded belt 7 and is pressed upon this belt by a plain roller 17; superfluous tobacco is removed by a vertical carded belt 25, and the remainder is showered into the trough 6 by a picker roller 35. A rotating tumbling device 32 assists in circulating the tobacco within the hopper. The belts 7, 25 and the. roller 17 are driven by chain gearing from the main shaft 10 of the feeding device. the device 32 being driven from the shaft 18 of the roller 17. The picker roller 35 is driven by a belt 38 from a shaft of the machine. One side 39 of the hopper 3 is movable laterally by screws 40 secured thereto, these screws carrying nuts 41 having sprocket teeth and being rotatable in fixed bearings by a chain 42 engaging a crank-rotated sprocket 43.
