Abstract
738,133. Opening and cleaning fibres. SACOLOWELL SHOPS. Oct. 20, 1953 [Nov. 12, 1952], No. 28988/53. Class 120(1). Picker apparatus for opening and cleaning textile fibres comprises a revolving beater 10 and two or more continuously-rotated, spaced grid bars 14, the beater beating the fibres across bars 14 in a direction transverse to their axes to remove trash from the fibres. As shown, two bars 14 are provided, in the form of rollers which may be plain, fluted, sand-blasted or wound with saw-toothed wire. Bars 14 are rotatably mounted in brackets 16 adjustably carried by cheeks 15 which are adjustable on the machine frame. Bars 14 are driven from feed roll 11 via chain 30 at a peripheral speed 10-15 per cent greater than that of the feed roll, the periphery of each bar moving in the same direction as, but at a much lower speed than, beater 10. A fringe roll 13, as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,435,938, rotates at a similar speed and in the same direction as bars 14. Bars 14, by rotating, operate to return to the air stream any fibres leaving the air stream with the trash.
