Abstract

703,208. Preparing fibres for spinning. SACO-LOWELL SHOPS. Dec. 3, 1951 [March 17, 1951], No. 28311/51. Class 120(1) A picker apparatus for opening and cleaning textile fibres, having a rotatable beater 12 with beater elements such as pins, is provided with a grid bar assembly comprising a pair of spaced cheek members 32, and bars 18 extending between members 32, and individual brackets 20 positioned on members 32 supporting bars 18 for individual adjustable rotation about longitudinal axes, brackets 20 being mounted on members 32 for individual radial movement with respect to the path of travel of the beater elements. As shown, stub shafts 24 at the ends of grid bars 18 are rotatably adjustable in brackets 20 and are clamped therein by means of set screws 28. Brackets 20 are adjustable, radially of beater 12, in tracks 30 on cheek members 32 which are secured to opposite sides of the machine frame 10 by mounting elements 40. Each such element consists of an inner portion 46 slidable on tracks 48 on an outer portion 42 which is slidable on tracks 44. on cheek 32, a set screw 52 clamping the inner portion to the frame; radial or circumferential adjustment of the cheeks and grid bars as a whole is'thus permitted. A baffle plate 54, adjustable rotatably and radially of the 'beater, is mounted between cheeks 32 immediately behind the last grid bar, and a bottom plate 60 is mounted so as to contact the bottom 62 of an air conveyer trunk. An air inlet slot is provided between plates 54 and 60, thus reducing the air currents passing inwardly between bars 18 and allowing even light impurities beaten from the fibre to pass outwardly between the bars.
