Abstract

290,170. LebÞgue, (nÚe LeraillÚ), L. May 7, 1927, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Vaporizers, external.-A multi-tubular exhaustheated vaporizer has, combined with it, means for producing a mixture of water vapour and air to be added to the heated combustible mixture on its way to the engine. A casting 8 encloses two nests of tubes 1, 2 heated externally by exhaust gases flowing through pipes connected to flanges 9. The tubes 1 convey combustible mixture from a carburettor 14 to the induction pipe 3 the flow being controlled by a throttle valve 7. The tubes 2 convey vapour from a water tank 15 filled with absorbent material the flow of vapour being controlled by a valve 16. An automatic valve 5 admits air to the vapour, the mixed air and vapour flowing past a valve 6 into the induction pipe. The valves 6 and 7 can be actuated simultaneously by the accelerator pedal. The fuel used in the carburettor may be heated by flowing through a pipe 18. The tank 15 may be replaced by any suitable device for producing water-vapour. In a modification, the nests of tubes are arranged at right angles to one another instead of being parallel. A light fuel may be used at starting or, in the case of stationary engines, preliminary heating may be employed.
