Abstract

Hand actuation; electric and magnetic. - A brake is arranged to be applied by either local or remote control and to be released by mechanism which takes precedence of the two applying means in whatever position they may be set. Thus the brake 3, Fig. 2, is applied by an axial movement of the rod 5 acting through the spring 4, which may be effected by a direct pull on the cord 6 or by unscrewing the hand wheel 8 from the casing 9. The solenoid or steam brake cylinder 13 stretches the spring 4 to release the brake notwithstanding the position of the rod 5 which, for example, may be in the brake-applying position.
