Abstract

280,032. Dewhurst, M. Nov. 8, 1926. Electric brakes.-Relates to electromagnetic brakes of the kind in which brake shoes B, C are normally pressed against the periphery of a drum D by a spring or springs E and are released therefrom when an electromagnet. G is energised by a single or polyphase alternating current passed through a coil Q. The release of the brake shoes is effected by a compression rod N which is actuated by an armature K, L pivoted at M to a second member H, G, which completes the magnetic circuit and is fixed to one of' the shoes B, while the compression spring or springs E are disposed below the pivots R of the shoes. Set screws P, F are provided respectively to adjust the length of the air gap in the magnetic circuit, and to vary the compression of the spring E and thereby the normal pressure exerted by the brake shoes. In a modification the two shoes are mounted on the same pivot.
