416,894. Electromagnets. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 147, Queen Victoria Street, London.-(Assignees of Hodgson, H. E. ; N. 12th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.A.) Feb. 5, 1934, No. 3703. Convention date, Feb. 6, 1933. [Class 35.] A brake comprising a pair of opposed brake shoes engaging a drum is operated by an electromagnet having a pair of armatures each connected to a shoe and arranged on either side of a stationary field member which with the armatures forms a complete enclosure for the winding. The brake described is spring-applied and released by the magnet. The field member of the magnet comprises a hollow frame 10 containing a bobbin 11 which abuts on a shoulder at one end of the frame and is secured by screws 22 at the other end. A pair of armatures 30, 31 extend over the end faces of and within the frame and bobbin. The armatures are urged apart to apply the brake by a spring 17 which seats at 34 on armature 30 and on a cross-bar 36 bolted to the armature 31.
