Abstract
162,145. Igranic Electric Co., Ltd., (Cutler-Hammer Manufacturing Co.). March 1, 1920. Electric and magnetic; actuated or applied by springs.-In a brake comprising diametricallydisposed shoes controlled by an electromagnetic force acting in line with the centres of the shoes, both shoes are controlled by a single electromagret. The field member 15 and the armature member 5 are pivoted together and to the base 8 at 7 and are forced apart by a central spring 21 with an adjustable pressure plate 22. The brake shoes 2, 3 are carried respectively by a lever 4 pivoted at 6 to the base 8 and by the armature member 5, and the lever 4 is connected to the field member 15 by an adjustable link 18. The brake is applied by the spring 21 and is released by energizing the electromagnet, the movement of the member 5 being limited by a lug 13 thereon abutting on an adjustable stop 14 on the base. The outer pole of the annular field member 15 is provided with a flange 28 overhanging the edge of the armature member 5 to protect the pole faces and to reduce the reluctance. The terminal lugs of the winding are protected by covers 31, 32 secured to the field member 15.
