Gas and oil cooking-stoves; oven shelves. - A gas or oil cooking stove comprises, in combination, an oven 2 with flue spaces extending over the whole of five sides; a burner 8 in one vertical flue 3; baffles causing the gases to pass up the flue 3, along the top flue 6, down the side flue 5, along the bottom flue 7, up the side flue 4 and out through outlets 9; openings 14 in the hot-plate over the flue 3 containing the burner; and one or more subsidiary burners 15 in the top flue beneath further openings 14. The burner 8 may be mounted so that it may be turned to direct the flames against the oven when it is not required to heat the hotplate. A plate-warming chamber 10 may be arranged beneath the oven, heated by the flues 3, 7, and if desired by side flues also. The oven shelves may be formed with cavities communicating with the side flues so that the gases pass through them. Hand-rails may be provided which serve also for drying cloths. A stove comprising two ovens similar to that described arranged side by side, and with a burner in the vertical flue separating them, is also illustrated; large stoves may comprise two such pairs, arranged one in front of the other.
