Abstract

282,940. Podmore, A. Nov. 3, 1926. Cigarette - making machines.-In cut-off mechanism the knifeholder 13, 14 reciprocates axially of the shaft 4 and is rotated therefrom bv an arm 19 and a pin 18, which slides within a bushing 21 in the holder. The reciprocations are imparted by an eccentric 8 driven by bevel gearing from the shaft 4 and having its strap connected to a slide 10. A sleeve 12 rotating a ball bearing within the slide 10 carries the discs between which the knife is secured. In a modified construction, Fig. 2. employing a rotary disc knife 24, the latter is gripped between discs 25, 26, the disc 25 being screwed on the spindle of a, gear wheel 28 in mesh with a non-rotating wheel 36 on the housing 10. The second disc 26 is spring-pressed against the knife and is formed with a pin 33 for centring purposes. Modifications are also indicated according to which the positions of the pin 18 and bushing 21 may be exchanged, and in which a forked opening may be provided for engagement by the pin 21. The eccentric 8 may be duplicated, and automatic sharpening apparatus, as described in Specification 261,151, may be provided.
