Abstract

220,707. Cross & Son, Ltd., W., and Cross, H. G. May 22, 1923. Disc, wheel, and roller apparatus.-A grinding- machine comprises a base 1 upon which is rotatably supported, on ball bearings 2, a flat circular work-table 3 having a downwardly extending shaft 4. Loosely mounted upon the shaft is a bevel-wheel 12 having secured thereto a pinion 13, which drives the table 3 through gears 14, 23, 24 and a clutch 20 operated by a lever 17. The bevel-wheel 12 is driven at slow speed, through a bevel-pinion 11, by a main shaft 9. The grinding-wheel 28, which is of cup shape is mounted on a shaft 43 supported in a block 34, which is movable up and down on an arm 33 projecting from a standard 31, by rack- and-pinion gearing 35, 36 operated through wormgearing by a shaft 40 having a hand-wheel 41 thereon. The wheel 28 is driven at high speed through bevel-gearing 51, 52 and gears 46, 47, by the shaft 9. According to the Provisional Specification, the grinding-wheel shaft is mounted in a sleeve slidable vertically by screw-gearing, within the arm 33.
