Abstract

137,689. Wilks, E. C., and Frost, W. March 27, 1919. Disk apparatus. - Apparatus for grinding overhanging crank-pins in position, in which the grinding-disk is rotated and moved around and along the crank-pin, comprises a mandrel c screwed at d, e and adapted to be located between the centres of opposing crank-pins a, b and having secured thereto a frame f carrying a toothed sun-wheel g and a bearing for a shaft h<1>. This shaft carries a driving-pinion k and a pinion j gearing with a toothed wheel m rotatable on the mandrel and having projecting therefrom driving-pins o pacing through a carrier or sleeve p<1>, in which is slidably mounted a nut p in engagement with the thread e. The sleeve has an extension r thereon, in which are mounted adjustable bearings t for the shaft v of a grinding-disk 2 and a shaft s carrying a pinion 4 gearing with a pinion 3 on the shaft v and a planet-wheel 5 gearing with the sun-wheel; the adjustable bearings are mounted in curved slots 7 of brackets 6 on the extension r, and are adjustable therein by means of nuts 8. In operation, the shaft h<1> is rotated, and the rotation is transmitted through the gear-wheels j, m and the pins o to the sleeve, the rotation of this causing rotation of the grinding-wheel through the engagement of the sun-and-planet wheels and through the pinions 3, 4.
