Abstract
207,298. Holmes, J. F. Sept. 15, 1922. Round holes, trueing.-In an internal cylinder grinding-machine, a grinder H not only rotates with its shaft T, but has a planetary motion about the axis of a tubular member A, which rotates in fixed bearings B, B<1>. Power from a countershaft M is conveyed by belt to a pulley Q<1> on a shaft R concentrically mounted in the member A, and thence by a chain running on sprockets P<2>, P<3> to a shaft G<1> journaled in a drum D attached to the member A. A chain running on sprockets P<5>, P<6> conveys the-power to the shaft T. The chain, which passes over the sprockets P<2>, P<3>, also passes over a jockey sprocket P<4> mounted on an adjustable shaft G<2> so as to adjust the tension of this chain, the shafts G<1>, G<2> being out of line with the shaft R so that the chain only engages one side of the sprocket P<2>. The shaft T is journaled in a sleeve, the flange F of which is pivoted at G to the cover of the drum D, and the eccentricity thereof is adjusted by a screw J. which engages teeth on the periphery of the flange F. The drum D is rotated by a chain running over sprockets P, P<1>. A base O, which supports the bearings B, B<1> and the countershaft M, can replace the tool rest of a turning lathe and be traversed, the work being fixed to the lathe bed, or the tool and work may be interchanged.
