Abstract

15,090. Lumsden, T. June 23. Disk apparatus.-Relates to power - driven tool-grinding machines of the kind described in Specification 3839/10, comprising a rotating grinder carried by an oscillating frame. The invention comprises the following features. (i) Means for axially adjusting the grinder j in relation to the oscillating frame a from a fixed point of the machine during the working thereof. A rack 13 upon a ram g carrying the grinder j is operated through gearing 14, 17, 19, 20, 22 from a shaft 23 carried in a fixed gearbox o and provided with a hand-wheel 24, Fig. 3. The wheel 22 on the shaft 23 remains in mesh with the next wheel carried by the frame a during the oscillations thereof. (ii) Means for adjusting the eccentric which oscillates the frame a, and also the point of attachment of the connecting - rod to the frame a during the working of the machine. The eccentric q is adjusted upon an inclined bushing r on a shaft s by means of a hand-lever 3 and claw y. The connecting-rod n is attached to a piston 4 carried by the frame a, the piston being adjustable by a screw shaft 6 and gearing 9, 10 operated by a shaft 11 and hand-wheel carried by the fixed gear-box o. The wheels 9, 10 remain in mesh during the oscillations of the frame a. (iii) The replacement of the compound slide work-holder described in the abovementioned Specification by a hollow turn-table 30, to which an exhausting-device 35, 34 is connected for removing dust during dry grinding. The aperture 33 can be closed by a plug 38 during wet grinding. The tool-holder 28 is mounted in trunnions carried by the table 30.
