Wire cards, grinding; spindle mountings.- A machine for grinding doffer rings of various diameters comprises standards a supporting a grinding-roller d and a cylinder b upon which the rings r are supported, an adjustable lower roller g also being provided for weighting or tensioning the rings during grinding. The cylinder b is driven by a belt m and gearing k<1> - - k<5>, and upon the axle of the cylinder are pulleys f provided with one way clutches, whereby the pulleys can be turned, by a handle f<1>, to wind up straps f<2>, which support the roller g. In order to allow of insertion of the rings in the machine, and to tension these, the axle g<r> of the cylinder g is engaged at its ends in bearings h, which are pivoted by bolts h<1> to slides h<3>, and by rotation about the pivots are turned away from the axle; bolts h<2> retain the bearings in position. The bearings are adjustable up and down on the slides, for rough adjustment, the final tensioning being performed by movement of the slides h<3> on brackets i by screws j or other devices; the slides are locked on the brackets by screwed studs.
