168,958. Robertson, W. B. J. Jan. 7, 1921. Cylinder machines; feeding; moulding peat.- Comprises a machine of the type in which an intermittently-rotated table is provided with compression boxes each fitted with an outer door and a plunger operated by a central fixed cam and co-operating with a charging- device. The table a is carried by rollers h. i, engaging an annular support g, and is provided with compression boxes b each fitted with a plunger c controlled by a central fixed cam e and spring f and an outer sliding door u opened and closed by a pinion v engaging fixed racks as the table rotates. Material is fed to the boxes b from a chamber l, to which it is supplied through a hopper s fitted with teasing-rollers t, by means of a plunger m. A shaft r drives the table a through a half pinion k and bevel wheel j and the plunger m through gears q, crank p, and rod o. The apparatus is preferably mounted on a portable frame 2, Fig. 1, provided with endless-track chains 3 &c. and carrying an internal-combustion engine 4 driving a dynamo 5 from which current is supplied to a motor 6 operating the shaft r through reduction gearing 7 and a chain 9, and the chains 3 through worm gear 8. A frame structure 10 arranged adjacent to the hopper s carries a vertically adjustable arm 11 carrying a truck 12 from which is suspended a grab 13 or other cutting or excavating and conveying device adapted to transfer the peat from the earth to the hopper. The arm 11 may be rotatable relatively to the frame.
