Abstract

The front of the machine has side plates (4) with the chopper drum (1) mounted horizontally between them. The drum has knives (3) around its periphery cooperating with a fixed blade. In front are two rollers, placed horizontally one above the other. The bottom one (6) is fixed, the upper (7) is adjustable in spring loaded bearing blocks (8,10) to alter the gap between rollers. A linkage (11,14) has one end attached to a block, the other end to the machine frame (16). The drive motor (17) rotates the chopper drum (18) and also reduction gears (20,21,22). A chain (23) passes round this, over sprockets (27) on the linkage and also the rollers (25,26) for driving.
