[Class 60] A machine for continuous grinding and polishing of surfaces of bands, rods, pipes, wire and the like by means of co-operating rotary discs, one on each side of the work, wherein the spindles of the discs are eccentrically mounted in rotatable bearing elements for the adjustment of the discs to varying mutual distances is characterised by the fact that each of the bearing elements is concentrically fast with a toothed wheel which is in driving connection with a common adjusting toothed wheel, whereby, when the latter is turned on its axis, the shafts of the discs are moved parallel to themselves. Polishing discs 1, 2 are carried on the free ends of spindles 3, 4 eccentrically mounted in round bearing housings 5, 6 which in turn are mounted in a frame 7. The discs are driven from electric motors 8, 9 rigidly connected to the bearing housings, and a metal band to be polished is passed between the discs in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the discs over guides 11, 12; any number of pairs of discs may be provided. To adjust the distance between the discs the bearing housings are given the required rotation, their clamping rings 17, 17a having been loosened, by turning a pinion 14 meshing with a gear 15 secured on the bearing housing 5 which meshes with a gear 16 on the housing 6, after which the clamping rings are tightened again. For treating rods, pipes, wire or the like the work is fed in a direction parallel to the disc spindles between the two discs, which are caused to rotate in a planetary fashion around the said work. In this case, Fig. 5, the bearing housings 5, 6 are mounted in a block 25 rigidly connected to a ring 26 rotated by a driven pinion 32 meshing with a toothed ring 33 secured to the ring 26, the discs 1, 2 being adjusted substantially as before. Electric motors need not necessarily be used.
