[Class 60] [Also in Group XXII] A gear b to be ground or honed by the generating process by a helically grooved wheel a is driven by a gear train b<SP>1</SP> ... b<SP>6</SP> from a shaft d that also drives the grinding wheel a at a3 and a crushing roller for trueing the wheel at c3. The wheel a is mounted on a slide for movement between the grinding and trueing positions without disturbing the gearing. The roller c may be given a rapid movement into and out of contact with the wheel during the dressing operation, for example by means of a slide, cam, and spring as described in Specification 519,081. The gear spindle d<SP>1</SP> is moved parallel to the plane of grinding by a screw and worm wheel nut f driven by a motor i. When helical gears are being ground the spindle is set over to the required angle by means of bolts k engaging an arcuate slot, the gear train b<SP>2</SP>, b<SP>3</SP> being arranged to permit the necessary adjustment. The dressing roller may also be adjustable according to the helix angle, and a clutch may be provided for disconnecting the drive to the roller.
