465,679. Trueing grinding wheels. SCRIVENER, A. Feb. 17, 1936, No. 4710. [Class 60] A machine for forming a grinding-wheel c for helically grooved work such as screw threads comprises an annularly grooved crushing roller r which is so mounted as to be adapted for a swivelling adjustment relatively to the axis of the wheel for the purpose of accommodating itself to the helix angle of the work to be ground and which is slidable to and from the operative surface of the grinding-wheel in a direction at right-angles to said axis and which is also adapted for a tangential oscillating sliding movement across the face of the wheel. The roller r is mounted on a shaft t carried by a bracket k attached to a flange j of a sleeve i of an oscillatable shaft g mounted in bearings h in a slide d which may be moved by a hand wheel e to bring the roller into operative engagement with the wheel. The oscillation of the shaft g gives the roller a tangential oscillating movement across the face of the wheel. In order that the roller may be adjusted according to the helix angle of the work the bracket k is adjustable about an axis at right angles to the axis of the shaft g by means of screws m operating through arcuate slots n in the flange l of the bracket, a fine adjustment being obtained by screws o engaging opposite sides of a peg p projecting from the flange j. A diamond 5 movable across the face of the wheel is used to produce initially a true cylindrical surface.
