Abstract

491,077. Trueing grinding-wheels; gear-cutting. KLINGELNBERG, G. A., KLINGELNBERG, W. H., and KLINGELNBERG, H. W., (trading as KLINGELNBERG SOHNE, W. F.). Feb. 23, 1937, No. 5428. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1936. [Class 60] [Also in Group XXII] Apparatus for trimming the threads of a tapered grinding-worm 1 for finishing -curved tooth bevel gears, comprises a pair of diamond tools 21 carried by levers 22 which are pivoted to a carrier 30 which is fed along a pitch line of the worm during the rotation thereof by means of a screw spindle 29 which also serves as a pivot for oscillating movement of the carrier. The pivots of the trimming levers are adjustable in arcuate supports 34 according to the pressure edge of the worm and the diamonds may be set to the required thread thickness by means of screws 33. Rigid oscillation of the diamonds across the thread flanks substantially in a radial plane of the worm is effected by cams on a shaft 23 driven by a motor 38. The worm and the screw 29 are driven in unison from reversing bevel gearing 25 and gears 26-28. The housing is steadied by a roller 31 engaging a guide 32 which, for trimming a worm 1 of hyperbolic form, as shown, is of curved form. For trimming curved profiles, the levers of the trimmers may be guided in curvilinear paths. To adjust the worm towards the trimmers, the worm spindle 16 has screw-threads 16<1> running in a nut 20, the pitch of the threads 16<1> being equal to the pitch of the worm at the pitch cone multiplied by Cos alpha where alpha is the addendum cone angle. In this way, when the worm is adjusted towards the basic crown-wheel plane, the displacement of the thread flanks is at right-angles to the crown-wheel plane. When not in use the trimming-mechanism may be moved into the dotted line position, Fig. 3. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a machine for burnishing the tooth faces of bevel gears with longitudinally curved teeth by a finely toothed worm or a grinding-worm which is swung to and fro several times round the axis of the crown gear during the process of generating. The tool 1, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), is driven from a motor 2 geared to the shaft 5 which also drives the gear blank (not shown). The face plate 10 carrying the tool-head 9 is oscillated through reversing-gear comprising worm wheels 12, 13 driven from the shaft 5 through a clutch 14 controlled by a lever 15 actuated by the face plate. A differential gear 11 maintains synchronism of the tool and blank. The tool is not adjusted at once to the full cutting depth but is gradually advanced either by adjusting the tool or the blank. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
