Abstract

156,157. Haerting, K. R. June 17, 1919, [Convention date]. Disc, wheel, and roller apparatus.-Comprises a combination machine for working stone &c. and adapted for use in ramming the materials into moulds for making artificial stone and also adapted for grinding or polishing the stone. The tools are mounted at the outer end of a jointed arm 5 adjustable in a horizontal plane about the main shaft 1 or about a shaft coaxial therewith, and carried by the arm is a vertical shaft 7 driven thicugh belt gearing by the shaft 1. A lever 8. is pivoted to the arm and to the shaft 7, and serves to move the arm and also to raise and lower the shaft, which is slidably mounted in the arm. When the machine is used for ramming, the lever is placed on a link or hook 11, which acts in conjunction with a collar 20 pinned to the shaft '7 to retain a bevel-wheel 15, carried by the shaft, in gear with a bevel-wheel 16 carried by a shaft 14 which drives the ram 12. The ram is engaged on one side by a sector 13 carried by the shaft 14 and is supported at the other side by rollers; as the sector turns away from the ram, this drops on to the work. In order to accelerate the drop, a wheel 17 is mounted on a shaft 19 carried by a pivoted frame, which is rocked to cause the wheel to engage the ram for a short time by means of tappets 18 on the shaft 14. When the machine is to be used for grinding or polishing, the lever 8 is released from the hook and is connected to a spring 9 and the collar 20 is moved so as to maintain the bevel-wheel 15 out of engagement with the wheel 16. The ram is removed and a grinding-tool 10 is attached to the lower end of the shaft 7; this tool is raised and lowered and moved over the work by means of the lever 8. The machine may be fixed or may be adapted to travel. The work is preferably supported on low trucks, which can be run under the machine and, when polishing, are provided with means for supporting the work at the required height.
