774,286. Sharpening tobacco cutting machine knives. KORBER, K. Nov. 16. 1953 [Dec. 19, 1952], No. 31693/53. Class 60 The cutter drum 3 of a tobacca cutting machine is sharpened by grinding wheels 20, 20 driven by an electric motor 17 on a cross slide 16 mounted on a slide 12 reciprocated by shaft 15 through crank drive 13, 14; the cross slide 16 is movable towards and away from the cutter drum by a spindle which may be operated by handwheel 18 or automatically. The wheels are trued by diamonds 10, 10 carried by brackets 5, 5 on the cutter drum support frame 1; each bracket carries a sleeve 6 with an external thread which can be adjusted relatively to the bracket, e.g. by a pin spanner or key engaging apertures 7 in the sleeve. A shouldered stud 8 forming a holder for the diamond 10 is located in the sleeve 6 and includes a surface 9 for rotation by a spanner. Lock nuts 11 are tightened to such an extent that the holder 8 can still be rotated by the spanner. The clearance between the mouthpiece and the cutter blades is determined by the adjustment, of the diamonds 10.
