750,639. Tobacco cutting. KORBER, K. Jan. 27, 1954 [Feb. 16, 1953], No. 2485/54. Class 5 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] In a tobacco-cutting machine in which the rotary cutters 6 on a drum 7 are continuously sharpened by grinding-wheels 29, 30, the drum 7 can be swung away from the mouthpiece 2 without disturbing the grinder, by mounting the drum frame 8 by hinges 12 &c. swinging about a vertical pivot 11. The frame 8 is secured in cutting position by a locking device 13. The grinders 29, 30 are carried on a slider body 21 reciprocated along guide rod 18, mounted on the main frame 15 of the machine. A motor 34, crank 33 and connecting-rod 32 effects the reciprocation of the grinding-wheels 29, 30 along the cutters 6. The grinder is fed down slightly towards the cutters after each grinder reciprocation by fixed cam tracks 27, 271 operating a ratchet and pawl screw-down device 23 &c. The grinding-wheels are trued by diamond truers 35, 35<SP>1</SP> fixed on the frame 8 outside the width of the knives. A pocket 36 receives the grinding dust which is sucked away.
