Abstract

614,997. Sharpening machine cutters in situ. DEARSLEY, G., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Aug. 7, 1946, No. 23421. [Class 60] [Also in Group I] Relates to tobacco-cutting machines of the type in which a rotatable head carries knives 25 the blades 20 of which are arranged to sweep across a mouthpiece through which a compressed mass of tobacco leaves is slowly extruded. The blades are automatically fed forward in unison to compensate for wear and are ground by sweeping across a grinding-wheel co-planar with the mouthpiece. According to the invention a gauge plate 1 is provided (see Group 1) against which the edges of freshlyinstalled blades are located, prior to grinding, the gauge plate being retractible into an inoperative position during normal operation of the machine.
