Abstract

273,139. Liebl, F. Oct. 28, 1926. Bevelling; lenses, grinding and polishing.- The edges of glass &c. articles are bevelled or rounded by means of a grinding-wheel 4 rotating: on a stationary axis, the work 23 being rotated, at variable speed according to the curvature of the glass &c. edge, in contact with the grinding- wheel. A vertical slotted spindle 10 is driven through gearing 5, 7, 9 from the grinding-wheel shaft, and on the spindle is freely mounted an arm 13 adjustable by a screw 14. The arm has hinged thereto at 15 an arm 16, in which is rotatable a member carrying a normally vertical shaft 16, 17, on which is mounted a pulley 20 of shape corresponding to that of the work, for example, elliptical. The pulley is driven by a belt from a pulley 21 on the shaft 10, the belt passing also over tensioning pulleys 22, 23; by this means, the work rotates more rapidly when parts of large curvature are being ground. The work is held by a holder, Fig. 4, consisting of an adjustable block 28 and a slidable block 27 carried by a plate 24, the block 27 being moved to grip the work by springs 30, and retracted by a lever 33, 34.
