Cigarette-making machines. - The planetarydriven rotary cutter 19 of a continuous-rod machine is supported on a rotating disc 1 and driven by an intermediate shaft 10 rotated by an independently-driven pinion 6. Within the hollow shaft of the disc 1 is mounted a second shaft, which is rotated in the opposite direction to that of the first shaft and carries the pinion 6 which gears with a bevel pinion 7 on the shaft 10. This shaft is carried in bearings on the disc 1 so as to rotate therewith, and drives the cutter shaft through bevel wheels 20, 21. The shaft 10 is movable axially through the pinion 7, and is mounted on a slide 13 adjustable radially on the disc. In a modification, the bevel gearing is replaced by worm gearing, and the shaft 10 is mounted in a turntable on the slide 13.
