268,710. Loewe & Co., Akt.-Ges., L. June 15, 1926, [Convention date]. Addition to 257,884. Disc apparatus. - In a circular grinding or polishing machine having disconnectible means for reciprocating the shaft 1 as described in the parent Specification, the differential nut for actuating the shaft 11 to throw the gearing into and out of operation is replaced by two levers 23 pivoted at 24 to a casing 22 secured to the shaft 1, arms 25 of the levers engaging a recess 26 in the shaft. The levers are moved and locked by a sleeve 27 slidable on the casing by a hand lever 28 carrying shoes 29 engaging a groove 30 in the sleeve; the gear may thus be thrown into or out of operation whilst the machine is running. The groove 30 may be made of a width to allow movement of the lever 28 with the shaft 1 during reciprocation thereof, without moving the sleeve.
