[Class 130.] In a cutting mechanism having a rotatable carrier on which is mounted a knife support that can be moved radially, stationary manually operated means are provided to move the support and adjust the knife while the cutting mechanism is in operation. A carrier 10 supports a shaft 15 having a screw, worm or spiral gear 16 in mesh with transverse grooves on a plate 17 to which the knife 18 is attached, the knife and plate being supported between the carrier and a guide plate 19. Gear teeth 20 on the shaft 15 are engaged by a rack 21, Fig. 2, carried by a rod 22, sliding in a bearing 24 mounted on the shank 25 of a handwheel 26, the other end of the shank entering a stationary lug 28. By rotating the handwheel, the rack is actuated and the knife is moved outwardly, until, when the blade needs replacement, a lug 31 on a sleeve 30 engages a spring pressed stop pin 32. By removing the stop pin out of the path of the lug 31, the handwheel can be further rotated to enable the knife to be removed. The knife is inclined to the plane of rotation of the carrier and is adjusted to engage a stationary grinder disc 35 mounted on a stud 36, so that the disc will tangentially engage, grind to a curve, and bevel the cutting edge.
