Abstract

281,723. Buchi, A. Dec. 3, 1926, [Convention date]. Plant. - In engines supplied with air by blowers driven by exhaust turbines, the blower or blowers is or are arranged with axes at right angles to the engine set. The turbo-blower may be placed on the ground against the engine on the side remote from the engine driving side, or mounted on a platform against the wall of the engine house. The cooler for the air is mounted below the engine control platform. In a ship having two sets off engines 1, two turbo-blower sets 6, 2 are placed end on with a disconnectable clutch 10 between them. The engine exhaust pipes 4 have a cross-connecting pipe 11 and valves 12 to allow either one or both of the turbo-blower sets to work. The turbines extend beyond lines enclosing the engine sets. In another arrangement with three engine sets two blowers are used, each driven by two turbines; cross-connecting piping and valves are used to allow any or all of the turbines to drive. The exhaust pipes from the turbines and the fresh air inlet pipes are carried through the deck.
