Plant.-Charging and scavenging air or combustible mixture for an internal-combustion engine is supplied alternatively or conjointly according to working conditions by a blower driven by an exhaust turbine and by piston pumps. As applied to a double-acting engine with central admission and exhaust ports, the crosshead is used as the plunger in a piston pump 12, Fig. 1, the delivery from which flows through a pipe 14. Two sets of exhaust ports may be used to supply two independent turbines or the different stages of a two stage turbine.
