Abstract

279,292. Sweny, W. H. P., and Bond, H. T. Jan. 31, 1927. Hatches.-A metal hatch cover a which may be made in two or more parts with flanged abutting edges is made with an integral peripheral depending flange b which, when the cover is placed in position on the hatchway, engages with a continuous flange e secured to the outside of the coamings f and is secured by clamps h. Packing g is inserted between the abutting flanges. Alternatively, the hatch sections may carry members having eyed ends which engage with bolts carried by the flange f. The coaming is not carried up into engagement with the cover, but a space j is left between the depending flange of the cover and the coaming which acts as a reservoir for any water which may creep through the packing.
