Abstract

278,452. Ruud, O. S. July 9, 1926. Vacuum apparatus.- Fuel-feed apparatus for internal-combustion engines comprises a chamber 6 with a fuel inlet 8 and a suction port 9 connected to the induction pipe, of the engine. A float 11 slides on a tube 12 carrying a hollow atmospheric valve' 14 and a valve 18 between the. chamber 6 and the reservoir chamber 7. The valve 14 is larger than the valve 18 so that during the suction period in the chamber 6 the valve 14 is held to its seat by the atmospheric pressure against the lifting force of the float until the buoyancy of the float is sufficient to overcome the pressure and open the valve, suddenly and fully. At the same time, the valve 18 is opened to allow the fuel to pass into the chamber 7, which is connected at 10 to the carburettor. The tube 12 extends into the chamber 7 and keeps it at atmospheric pressure. The chamber 7 may be primed with fuel through the valve 14 and tube 12.
