Abstract

272,928. Compagnie Internationale des Freins Automatiques Soc. Anon. June 17, 1926, [Convention date]. Fluid-pressure. - Apparatus for operating brakes, doors, railway points, &c, comprises a main reservoir 8 containing a supply of liquid under pressure, an auxiliary reservoir 3 for accumulating exhaust liquid, and a pump for returning the exhaust liquid to the main reservoir, the brakes &c. being operated by pistons 25 and/or the pump piston 5. The liquid from the reservoir 3 passes through a valve 15 and forces back the pump piston 5, until the latter actuates a switch 9 to close the circuit of an electromagnet 36 supplied by a battery 12. A switch 37 is thereby closed, and the solenoid 6 returns the piston to force liquid through a valve 14 into the reservoir 8. When it is desired to use the pump piston as an additional or the only means for operating mechanism, a slot on its rod engages a pin on an operating lever 20, so that during operation as a pump the lever 20 is not moved. In order to enable the piston to move farther so as to operate the lever, a switch 13 is placed in the position S. A valve 11 is thus opened by a solenoid. and the circuit containing the electromagnet 36 is interrupted. When the switch is in the position D, it opens the circuit of the solenoid for the valve 11, and closes those of the electromagnet 36 and of a solenoid 15<1>. Should the circuit in the line L, which normally energizes a more powerful opposing solenoid 15<11> fail, the solenoid 15<1> acts to open the valve 15. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the auxiliary reservoir may be formed by the pump cylinder. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
