[Class 103 (i)] A liquid circulating system comprising a pump 7 and operating a brake cylinder 5a, is controlled by a valve 10 held on its'seat by a closing force which decreases with the speed of the vehicle, such as an electromagnet 11 energized from a dynamo 12 driven by the vehicle wheels so that as the vehicle slows the valve is allowed to rise and release pressure from the brake cylinder 5a allowing the liquid to escape back to the reservoir 22. Braking is first obtained by a cylinder 4a supplied with compressed air from a reservoir 6 by a valve 14, further movement of which by means of contact 19 closes the circuit fo dynamo 12 and electromagnet 11. A second electromagnet 16 may hold the valve 10 open, which is closed by a spring 15 when the circuit of the magnet 16 is broken by a break away of the train, thus automatically producing braking. A single cylinder may replace the cylinders 4a, 5a and the reservoir 6 is adapted to supply liquid under pressure to this cylinder. The valve 10 or the electromagnet 11 may be controlled by a centrifugal device or the electric circuit of the valve may be controlled by a centrifugal device. The contact 19 may be operated automatically by a piston acted on by the pressure fluid in the cylinder 4a.
