Abstract

687,304. Valves. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Aug. 24, 1950 [Aug. 29, 1949], No. 20994/50. Class 135 [Also in Group XXXIV] A check valve 62 in, e.g. a hydraulic braking system and controlling the flow of liquid between a replenishing tank 24 and a cylinder 26 housing a piston 28 which, on the depression of a pedal 12, moves to expel the liquid in the cylinder through a spring-loaded check valve 84 to the brake cylinders 17, comprises a spring-urged valve member 60 mounted on a stem 72 passing loosely through a flared hole 68 in a plug 64. A tubular member 44 secured to the piston and serving as an abutment for a spring 54 is formed with a flange 48 engageable with the stem 72. On release of the pedal 12, the spring 54 urges the piston 28 to the left, thus reducing the pressure in the cylinder 26 so that the higher pressure in the brake cylinders 17 unseats a valve 90 at the end of the cylinder to release the brakes. Upon engagement of the stem 72 by the flange 48 the valve 60 is unseated to permit the replenishment of the cylinder from the tank 24. The valve 60 functions as a normal non-return valve when the pressure in the cylinder is less than that in the tank. Specification 305,994, [Class 103 (i)], is referred to.
